Resistance Heating Cables for Industrial Heat Tracing
Resistance Heating Cables
Resistance heating cables generate heat through the electrical resistance of the heating conductor. Depending on construction, they can be used for engineered circuits, longer runs, higher temperatures or applications requiring a defined electrical output.

Typical applications
Resistance heating cables can be used for process temperature maintenance, high-temperature duties, long circuits, tanks, piping and custom equipment.
Electrical design
Series systems require required power, circuit length, supply voltage, permissible sheath temperature and electrical resistance to be engineered together. Changing length later can significantly change circuit output.
For a specified length, we assess the output at the intended supply and whether sheath temperature suits the application. Changes to an assembled length or supply voltage require reassessment. Connections and cold leads must match electrical loading, ambient conditions and installation location.
Standards reference (checked 14 October 2026): IEC/IEEE 62395-2:2024 addresses system design, installation, maintenance and repair outside hazardous areas. DIN EN 62395-2:2014-12 remains the current German national edition. Record the agreed edition in the project documentation.
Materials and environment
Insulation and jacket materials are selected around temperature, chemical exposure, moisture and mechanical conditions.
Control and protection
Resistance systems require control and electrical protection appropriate to the application. High-temperature or hazardous-area duties can require independent temperature limitation.
Standards reference (checked 14 October 2026): DIN EN 60519-10:2014-01 remains the current German standard for safety of industrial and commercial resistance trace heating. Its application is coordinated with the selected heating system and electrical-installation requirements.
Length changes require recalculation
In a series resistance circuit, length, resistance, voltage and power are directly linked. Shortening the heating conductor without recalculation can change the power to an unacceptable level. Parallel systems use a different arrangement and may have defined cutting zones. The cable construction and design data are therefore established before fabrication. Any site adjustment starts with an engineering review, rather than cutting away what appears to be excess cable.
Agree the brand and budget with us: our engineering is independent of a single manufacturer. Depending on suitability, we select Pro Therm own-brand materials or products from eltherm, BARTEC, RAYCHEM/Chemelex and Thermon. Tell us your preferred construction and budget range.
Standards reference (checked 14 October 2026): For heating cables and assemblies outside hazardous areas, IEC/IEEE 62395-1:2024 is the international reference for general requirements and testing. Germany still lists DIN EN 62395-1:2014-10 as the current national edition.
