Electric Heat Tracing for Oil and Gas Facilities
Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Plants
Oil and gas facilities require robust heat tracing for freeze protection, process temperature maintenance and critical plant equipment. Pro Therm combines engineering, suitable hazardous-area systems and worldwide installation with its own heat tracing teams.

Freeze protection and instrumentation
In addition to main process lines, drains, instrument lines, valves, pumps and smaller components can require freeze or temperature protection.
Tank farms and loading areas
Tank connections, pipe racks, pump stations and loading systems have different thermal conditions. Heat tracing is engineered to match the specific process conditions and heat losses. Sound design starts with product, temperature, insulation, pipe and tank geometry, and ambient data for each area. Pumps, flanges and valves may add significant heat loss.
Hazardous locations
Hazardous areas are common in oil and gas applications. Heating cables, accessories, controls, temperature limitation and installation must match the actual area classification and project specification.
Standards reference (checked 14 October 2026): IEC/IEEE 60079-30-1:2025 and IEC/IEEE 60079-30-2:2025 are international references for resistance trace heating in hazardous areas. Germany still lists DIN EN 60079-30-1:2018-04 and DIN EN 60079-30-2:2018-04 as current national editions. Equipment group, permitted EPL, protection concept and evidence for the actual assembly determine suitability.
Long pipelines and system architecture
For long runs, circuit length, supply voltage, feed points, power distribution and maintenance access can strongly influence heating technology selection. Circuit distribution should account for maintenance boundaries and isolation. Feed points, junction boxes and sensors must remain accessible after insulation is installed.
For international projects, supply, country, area classification and project-specific evidence need early clarification. Responsibilities for supply, installation, electrical connections and insulation are equally important. Pro Therm coordinates the agreed scope with its own installation teams and the site's handover requirements.
Standards reference (checked 14 October 2026): IEC/IEEE 62395-2:2024 addresses system design, installation, maintenance and repair outside hazardous areas. DIN EN 62395-2:2014-12 remains the current German national edition. Record the agreed edition in the project documentation.
From tank to transfer point
A warm tank wall is insufficient if the outlet, pump or loading line cools down. Temperature requirements must therefore be considered along the entire transfer route.
Separate heating circuits can accommodate different operating schedules. The operator defines which areas may be switched off together and where faults must trigger an alarm.
