Heat tracing for valves, pumps and instrument lines

Include critical branches in the thermal system

A warm main pipe does not eliminate every cold spot. Valves, pumps, filters, small branches and instrument lines need heating suited to their geometry and function. Pro Therm combines technical design with maintainable routing and worldwide installation by its own teams.

Keep valves and flanges maintainable

Valves must remain operable and, where required, removable. Routing considers the body, actuator, connections and intended dismantling. Heating cable is not routed over moving components without technical assessment.

At flanges, additional heating length, fixings and removable insulation are coordinated. The intended arrangement must be clearly restorable after maintenance. Identification and routing information help prevent an apparent spare length from being incorrectly removed or stored beneath insulation.

Treat pumps and filters as part of the transfer path

Pump bodies and filters can lose more heat than adjacent pipe. Shutdown, draining and restart create different operating conditions. An adequate main-line temperature does not automatically establish the required temperature at these components.

Available heating surfaces and permitted equipment temperatures are checked against the equipment documentation. Bearings, seals, drives and access openings require clear boundaries. Equipment type, drawings, operating sequence and plant or equipment manufacturer requirements are important enquiry inputs.

Small instrument and measurement lines

Instrument lines, measurement branches and infrequently flowing sections can respond differently from the main line. The required temperature follows the medium and measurement function. Heating is coordinated with the permitted temperatures of the instrument and connecting equipment.

Separate circuits or sensors may be appropriate where operating conditions differ substantially. An instrument layout, line dimensions, routing and details of isolation or drains support planning. Specialist analyser or heated sampling duties are clarified as separate applications where needed.

Select technology and sensor position together

Self-regulating cables, resistance heaters and MI assemblies are compared against temperature, heat demand, geometry and supply. Compact or irregular equipment particularly requires attention to bending radii, heat transfer and available installation area.

The measurement should represent the thermally significant condition. Direct contact with a locally hot heater or adjacent heat sources can affect control. Pro Therm designs independently of manufacturer and agrees a suitable combination of heating, connections and controls with you.

Coordinate testing and insulation handover

Before insulation is closed, circuit assignment, intended routing and agreed checks are documented. Following dismantling, the heating and sensors are checked against the intended configuration. This is especially relevant to frequently serviced equipment.

Standards reference (15 October 2026): IEC/IEEE 62395-2:2024 addresses application of electric trace heating outside hazardous areas. IEC/IEEE 60079-30-2:2025 is an international reference for hazardous areas within its scope. Project standards, product instructions and required evidence are agreed for the actual installation.
